Week Seven :)

This week I was greeted by Laura who was on reception. I went upstairs and went into the surgery room to help Kelly take bloods from a dog. I then cleaned a kennel out after a cat and a dog. This week we watched Finbarr spade a cat and a dog. We also watched Finbarr remove two chimers from a collie. He removed a chumer from the dogs mouth. I had to apply pressure to the dogs mouth where the chumer was removed. We learnt why a dog had to get excess skin removed from his face as he couldn't see properly due to the skin. We learnt about what dog would have the correct length nose and also learnt some interesting facts about the breed of dog that I have. I am really enjoying my Work Experience and look forward to each week.

Week Six :)

This week I arrived at the vets and was greeted by Laura who was on reception. I went upstairs to the staff room and hung my jacket up. I then went into the surgery room as operations were about to begin. This week I watched a dog and a cat being spade. This week, the girl that I am doing Work Experience with had her dog in the vet as she was suffering from lameness in her back leg. She was told that her would have to loose weight in order for lameness not to progress. We also learned about the liver this week as a dog had a very badly damaged liver. We learnt what functions the liver has and what could be the problem could be for it not working properly. We then went downstairs and swept, moped and cleaned the two consult rooms and the waiting room. This week was very interesting and I really enjoyed it.

Week Five :)

This week was my fifth week of Work Experience in a veterinary centre. This week I was greeted by Niamh who was on reception and I went up to the staff room. I met the girl who is on Work Experience as part of her college course. We headed down to isolation and cleaned out the kennel and made a new kennel for that dog. When we were finished we went into the surgery room and watched Finbarr spade a dog. This week we learned about lameness in a dog. I found it very interesting as we talked about good and bad exercise for dogs. I found this interesting as I have two dogs and therefore I would like to know what type of exercise I should be doing with them. When the surgeries were finished we brought a dog for a walk. I then went to the village to post a letter. When I got back I went into the surgery room and watched another dog being spade. We then went downstairs and swept, moped and cleaned the two consult rooms and the waiting room. I am really enjoying my work experience and I am finding it very interesting.
