My Tenth and Final Week

This week I had my tenth and final week of Work Experience in a local Primary School. I started my day by doing a small job for the Deputy Principal, which was to clean out a press in her office. When I had this completed, I went to Second Class where I would stay for the remainder of the day. When I arrived the teacher began her Irish lesson. I really enjoyed observing this lesson as Irish is my favourite subject and it was interesting to learn how you would teach this subject to second class. The teacher then told the class that they were going to practice their Christmas play. I was in charge of playing the music for the play. I really enjoyed watching the children perform scenes from their play as it was very evident that a lot of work was put in by the students and also the class teacher.
After break, I returned to Second Class and the class began their Maths lesson. Another student who was in on work experience was in this class for the Maths lesson. The class had to make a large square using different shaped maths equipment. I helped some students if they found the task difficult or challenging. I really enjoyed this maths lesson as it showed me how to make an important subject more easier and fun.
After lunch, the class began their History lesson. They were learning about legends and focused on Setanta. The teacher read them a book based on this legend and the class compared it to the story that was in their history book. They did this to show that legends stories alter as different people have different ways of telling the same story. The class then began their English lesson, which was reading their English story and answer the questions based on the story. I helped any children that found the questions difficult to comprehend.
I really enjoyed my time in this class and the school. I had an amazing ten weeks of Work Experience that I will have many fond memories of. I really appreciate the opportunity that I was given as I now that it will be of great benefit to me in the future if I pursue a career in teaching, and from my time in this school I would definitely consider this option!
