My Fifth Week :)

Today I had my fifth week of Work Experience in a local Primary School. I started  my day in Senior Infants class in which I helped the children paint their paper plates orange for Halloween decorations. When each child had their plates painted I helped them with writing their news. When everyone had their news written, they played maths games in threes. I went around to the groups as did the teacher, and explained to the children how to play the game. I really enjoyed my time with Senior Infants, as I enjoyed their positivity with each task given.
After break, I was in with a Junior Infants class. In my time here I helped the teacher make sure that the children were putting the letters the right way to form words. I then helped three children complete an aural task in their workbook. I really enjoyed my time in Junior Infants as I liked how I got to help a certain number of children with a specific task.
I left Junior Infants and went to a Resource Class. I observed the teacher teaching Maths and then English. I helped the children write a short script for an English story. I then cut out pictures for the teacher. I really enjoyed my time in resource as I got to observe the time and patience required for this area of teaching.
After lunch, I was in with a Fourth Class group. In my time here I helped a group of children with an English Halloween themed poem. I helped the children with any words they did not understand and played fun educational games to help them understand the poem better. I also helped the teacher set up their art lesson. I poured out blue and purple paint and cut up pieces of black paper. The children got a large piece of paper and had to paint it a mixture of blue and purple, like the night sky. Tomorrow they will stick their designs from the black paper onto their paintings. I really enjoyed my time with Fourth Class, as I liked learning how you would teach English to this age group and also Art lessons with a Halloween theme.
I am really enjoying my Work Experience Placement and feel that I am gaining a lot of information that will be of great benefit to me if I pursue this career choice.

My Fourth Week :)

Today I had my fourth week of  Work Experience in a local Primary School. I started  my day in Senior Infants. In this class I asked each child individually if they knew how to say their English words that got for homework each night. I then went around and made sure that the children understood their maths task and helped them if they required any. I really enjoyed my time with Senior Infants as the children are very enthusiastic about each task given.
I then left Senior Infants and went to an English Resource class. In this class I cut up posters for the teacher and observed the method of teaching used for children who find the English language difficult. I really enjoyed my time with Resource, as I got to observe the method of teaching used for children who find some subjects difficult.
After break, I was in with Fourth Class. In this class I observed the teacher teaching maths by correcting their homework and doing a fun maths game with them. The teacher then assigned the class maths questions and started to take down posters and hang up other work. I then went outside the classroom and took down the children's art work and put up their newer paintings. I then helped the children who find English difficult, with their English comprehensions. I really enjoyed my time in Fourth Class, as I was able to observe how to make the learning of maths more interesting and easy for children.
After lunch I was in with Sixth Class. In this class I helped the children with their power point presentations on Net Books. The class are doing projects on The Aztec's and The Egyptians. This was their first time using power point, so many individuals needed assistance to get them started. I really enjoyed my time in Sixth Class, as I got to help the children with activities that will be of great benefit to them when they enter Second Level education.

My Third Week :)

I am now in my third week of Work Experience in a local primary school. I was in Third Class today and I really enjoyed it. In the morning the teacher taught the class Irish. They  learnt Irish in a fun way by learning the rooms of the house by 'Where's Wally' in Irish. I really enjoyed learning how to teach Irish in a fun way as I love the language.
I then presented a project that I did when I was in primary school, as the children are doing a similar project and from seeing mine they got ideas for their projects. I answered any questions that the children had in relation to the project. The children then went to a Book Fair in the hall. I helped the children in choosing a book if needed it.
After break the children began their maths lesson. The children were doing pictogram's and block charts, they made a big poster with the results from the survey that they did on the other children in the class.
After lunch the children did English. They got these comprehensions that they do by themselves and then they checked a card which had the answers on them. I had to type up titles for maths posters for the teacher and print them off. I then had to cut out the headings and put them on coloured paper and laminate them. I then read a few pages from an English book to the class.
I really enjoyed my third week of Work Experience as I am getting a better understanding for the life of teaching.

The Second Week :D

My second week of work experience was brilliant! I was in Second Class for the day, which I really enjoyed. We started the day with an art lesson. The children were given a white piece of  fabric that they had to stick other pieces of fabric onto to create their own picture.
At the top of the classroom the teacher had a blue piece of  fabric stuck to a green piece. In the center of it was a brown tree. One by one the children came up and glued a piece of fabric down on the green piece of fabric. When the green area was covered in different fabrics they started on the blue area of the fabric. The children came up and swirled wool at the branch of the tree creating a leaf effect. The end result of the art work was excellent.
We then went to a First and Second Class Assembly. In this each class preformed a piece ranging from songs, poems, raps, as well as presenting posters. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in the hall when the children were preforming as they were all brilliant. Two children were rewarded with a €10 voucher for Liffey Valley Shopping Center. There names were pulled out of a box. They were nominated for good behaviour, participation in class and many other reasons.
I really enjoyed my second week of Work Experience :D
